Ron Paul sets one-day GOP fundraising record
On Nov 5, Ron Paul, thanks to an extraordinary outpouring of internet support, raised $4.2 million in 24 hours, surpassing Mitt Romneys previous record of $3.1 million.
There were more than 35,000 contributors, of whom 20,000 were first-time donors. Only 1.9 percent have reached their FEC limit. Individuals may give up to $2,300 per candidate per election.
The one-day campaign raised the fourth-quarter total to $7.4 million; the goal is $12 million by the end of the year.
These phenomenal numbers are just the most recent indication that our momentum is building across this nation, said Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. Todays numbers show that Dr. Pauls message of freedom, prosperity and peace has the power to elevate us to the top and secure the Republican Party nomination.
The Nov 5 campaign was coordinated through an independent website set up by 37-year-old Trevor Lyman, who runs a music promotion website.
Lyman describes himself as mostly apathetic on politics. He started supporting Paul when the congressman was just exploring a presidential run. He also started a website devoted to Ron Paul videos. (Z Byron Wolf, ABC News 11/6/07).
