The shows Director of Public
Outreach sends us this excerpt: ..Dr. Mark
Siegel [associate professor of medicine at NYU and practicing internist] is very
upset, ... that's disturbing that-- that an insurance company has the right to
the very thing that I'm discussing in hush tones here in the office.
With the
pharmacies it's even worse. Pharmacies don't have the same statutes in place to
protect the patient that we as physicians have, they do have an ethical
requirement to keep things under wraps. But they don't have the legal
requirement. Because if I prescribe a medication here in the office -- that
medication is listed in the pharmacy and is part of a national databank that the
pharmacy uses-- if it's a chain pharmacy, it's available to every one of those
pharmacies throughout the country. And
pharmacies may sell this information to-- to the drug companies for marketing
and advertising purposes." Siegel asks, "What's the sense of
safeguarding privacy here in the chart when what's written in the chart goes out
the door, there's no-- there's no safeguard? Send your comments to PBS via their
website or on the AAPS Forum: AAPS IS WORKING TO
STOP THESE REGULATIONS AAPS is involved in
litigation to stop these NON-Privacy Regulations, but the government has
already dragged it out for more than year, draining our legal fund. To make a donation to
help stop these regulations, click
here. All funds go directly
to the legal foundation, and AAPS never sells or shares our
database. In the meantime, there
is only one way to protect patient privacy you can legally refuse to
participate. 1)
PROFESSIONALS: Refuse to participate if
you are a doctor, dentist, chiropractor, or 2)
PATIENTS: See only professionals who
refuse to participate. For details and instructions, click
