JOURNAL OF AMERICAN PHYSICIANS & SURGEONS We are excited to announce some
important changes to our peer-reviewed journal – changes made in response to
member feedback and suggestions in our recent Member Benefits
survey. First, it is no longer called the
Medical Sentinel. Beginning with
the current issue, Spring 2003 (Volume 8, No.1), the new name is the Journal of American Physicians and
Surgeons, or JP&S. We
believe this more accurately represents the organization as a non-partisan
professional association. Founding editor, Miguel Faria, M.D.,
has stepped down, but the JP&S will be lead by a dynamic and most capable
new editor – Lawrence Huntoon, M.D. Ph.D., a contributor to many scholarly
journals. Many of you are familiar
with Dr. Huntoon’s outrageous sense of humor as reflected in his series of
cartoons, “Blue Bunglers,” lampooning CMS bureaucrats. You may email stories and comments
to Dr. Huntoon at [email protected] In addition to the new name, we have
revamped the journal’s design to better reflect the future editorial direction
of the JP&S. We have eliminated
the news capsules that tend to be old news by the time a quarterly journal is
published, and reduced the political commentary in favor of more articles of a scientific nature,
particularly if they are relevant to contemporary policy debates. For example, the lead article
in this issue by Mark and David Geier on thimerosal in childhood
vaccines is very timely.
JOURNAL’S
“…a commitment to publishing
scholarly articles in defense of the practice of private medicine, the pursuit
of integrity in medical research…Political correctness, dogmatism and orthodoxy
will be challenged with logical reasoning, valid data and the scientific
method.” And all articles will be subject to
stringent peer review. Based on
your survey comments, we believe these changes will help us to fulfill that
mission. MEMBERS CONTINUE TO
