MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO SENIORS’ HEALTH, SAYS DOCTORS’ GROUP

Proposals for unrestricted "free" drug coverage under Medicare could be hazardous to seniors’ health, according to a new alert issued by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).

"Seniors Could be Medicated to Death" is the title of a new paper posted by AAPS on its website (www.aapsonline.org), written by two physicians who examine the pitfalls of President Bush’s and Congress’s proposals for Medicare prescription drug coverage.

The authors warn "It’s bad enough getting older without being medicated to death. If seniors and doctors give in to the siren song of unlimited government-mandated free drugs, the safety of all seniors could be seriously compromised."
