News of the Day ... in Perspective5/3/2005HHS Secretary Leavitt touts living wills In a talk to the American Hospital Association, Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said that encouraging new Medicare participants to write living wills “would likely save the system a remarkable amount of money, allowing that money to be spent in other ways and other places.” Leavitt said he had been approached by a congressman who raised the idea of incorporating a consultation about living wills into the Medicare physical for new beneficiaries (NY Times 5/2/05).
