This is a great idea! I will listen and would love to be there…Please educate the people about the economic sense and moral sense of health savings accounts. We will need major medical with minimal mandates, purchasable across state lines. HSA’s can be set up for kids from birth! I envision people having a page in their child’s baby book, with all the names of people who donated 10, 20, etc dollars to their HSA. This adds up! (For example, you could have a tree, with a name on each leaf, and give a golden leaf as a thank you note to each donor…easy, nice). I am working on a non profit mutual benefit corporation to help me raise money for procedures etc for patients’ whose needs fall through the cracks. This is especially important for Baby Boomers…a key insight is that health care payment is mainly a BB issue. The kids will be OK with their HSA’s, and there is enough money left in medicare, and good will among physicians, to care for our seniors. The problem is people in my generation, between 40-64, who haven’t saved enough for retirement, let alone their health care needs. To be fair, many of us trusted that our contributions to MC and Soc Sec would be there for us. It wasn’t all self indulgence, debt and bad planning..Best regards, Manya B. Helman, MD

What a wonderful idea Dr. Helman has presented. Dr. Maulfair and I have long supported health savings accounts, we admire and trust any program that protects liberty and a person’s right to their own health care choices. Independence comes with a wonderful feeling of real freedom of action.
If patients were in charge of their health care dollars the cost of health care would come down, way down because doctors would be forced to take up the subject of money at the visit and with the person. The introduction of intermediaries works well in real estate where you need distance but not when it comes to your health. You need to have a very close and trusting relationship with your doctor. Close communication also reduces lawsuits. This of course would also knock out administrative jobs and the cost. I love AAPS for all the opportunities it gives us to point up some solutions. I am sure the program today will be great! Coleen Maulfair, Exec. Dir. Maulfair Medical Center, Topton. Pa
