Message from AAPS President, Alieta Eck, M.D.
Jun 4, 2012
We welcome you to the website of AAPS, founded in 1943 to give a voice to physicians and patients to uphold the private relationship between the patient and his physician. Every government seems to want to control physicians in the name of compassion and equality, but neither can be achieved with constant third-party intrusion. Poor quality and rationing always ensue. We believe in the Oath of Hippocrates, and that our duty is to the individual, not society, and not the State.
I joined AAPS as a medical resident when I heard speakers explain the dangers of increasing government involvement in the practice of medicine. Early in my practice, I was inspired by the writings of its leaders-- especially Dr. Jane Orient, MD, Dr. Edward Annis, MD, and Dr. Miguel Faria, MD. Dr. Curtis Caine, now 92, joined in 1949 and still serves on our Board.
AAPS took part in successfully thwarting the Clinton Health plan, by challenging the illegal secrecy its development. More recently, we successfully halted the abuses by the Texas Medical Board. We have stood beside doctors who have been attacked by sham peer review or Medicare auditors. Within a week of its passage, we filed a lawsuit in the DC District Court to overturn ObamaCare.
My goal as President of this fine organization will be to increase our influence in the medical schools and work on a plan to replace the failed Medicaid system with real charity.
When you join AAPS your dues go directly into the fight for freedom and ethics in medicine. Our board members pay their own way to meetings. We have a small staff, our members volunteer their time, and we do not sell products to aid the government in its un-Constitutional role in the health care system. We need your help. Physicians, medical students and patients can all join and lend a voice to keep our medical care the best in the world.
Alieta Eck, MD, Internal Medicine
President, AAPS 2011-2012
