URGENT ACTION ALERT!
MIRACLE NEEDED!

The fix appears to be in as Congress prepares to vote on the so-called stimulus bill tomorrow. Still, Congress needs to hear from Americans, and the resistance needs to build.

Nearly 450,000 Americans have signed the NoStimulus.com petition. More than 10,000 participated in a tele-town hall last night (Feb 12) with House Minority Whip Eric Cantor and economist Steven Moore of the Wall Street Journal.

Some points made during the call:

  • NO Republicans, not even conferees, were in the room when the conference report was developed.

  • There is still NO copy of the 800-page bill available to readdespite the fact that the House voted 403 to 0 to have a 48-hour period for reviewing the language before a vote. (Speaker Pelosi decided to waive the rule almost as soon as it passed.)

  • The bill sets up the machinery for rationing medical care.

  • The real cost of the bill, considering the programs that will continue, is close to $3 trillion. It is the largest spending bill in history. Only 12% can possibly be described as an economic stimulus.

  • For minuscule tax relief ($1.10 per week?), each family incurs $6,000 worth of added indebtedness.

  • No part of the alternate plan suggested by Republicans was incorporated (see www.republicanwhip.house.gov).

  • The welfare reform passed in 1993 is rolled back.

What you can do:

  • Telephone your Senators and Representative and tell them to vote NO. Capitol Hill switchboard: (202) 225-3121 (Senate) and (202) 224-3121 (House). At least they will know how unhappy Americans are!

  • Sign the petition at www.NoStimulus.com.

  • Pass the message alongespecially about the rationing of medical care.
