HELP RUN HIPAA "MIRANDA WARNING" ACROSS THE COUNTRY

April 8, 2003

This is an urgent plea for help!
We need to raise $20,000 this week

AAPS members have always answered the call when we're needed emergency funds - this is one of those times. The HIPAA regulations will have as much impact on the practice of medicine as did the passage of Medicare.

AAPS has begun running the "Miranda Warning" ad pasted below to alert patients to the devastating effects these regulations will have on their privacy, and the ways in which their doctor will be forced to handle their medical records. Also, to let your colleagues know there is another option - to remain non-covered!

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK

As always, resources are tight, and we need your help to get these ads circulated. With your help, we can place this ad where millions will read it on April 14, including the Wall Street Journal and USA Today.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Download and copy the ad and distribute to your patients, post at your hospital, and email to your entire address book - not just colleagues! Download PDF file.

  2. Contribute to our educational fund to place this ad - we'll use your donation to place it in the Wall Street Journal or USA Today. Just fill out the online form.

  3. If you want to sponsor the ad in your local newspaper, let us know. We'll tell you the cost and do all the work to get it in the paper if you can underwrite it. THURSDAY IS THE DEADLINE TO RESERVE AN AD PLACEMENT. Contact Jeremy Snavely at [email protected] or call (800) 635-1196.
